About Arts in Motion Dance Studio

Amanda Stanger-Read and Scott A. Read opened Arts in Motion in January 2001 with 35 students, 2 dance studios and a class curriculum developed by Amanda Stanger-Read including Toddler Toodaloo, Dance Stories and Beginning Dance (now Discover Dance!). In 2002 they started the Student Dance Company – for all interested students, no audition – which meets for 2 hours almost every Sunday and performs throughout the Ann Arbor area. The studio expanded to include 15 dance teachers and almost 300 students.  In the Spring of 2013 Arts in Motion teamed up with Wild Swan Theater to share a space on the west side of Ann Arbor where they offer classes for all ages and levels in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, Irish, Pilates, and Ballroom. Arts in Motion is a member of the Arts Alliance, the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber, the Michigan Dance Council and the National Dance Education Organization.

Teaching Philosophy

At Arts in Motion we treat all students with respect. We believe that dance and music should be accessible to all ages and ability levels. Our teachers give 100% to their students and expect 100% back from their students. Teachers give immediate and specific feedback, not just generalized comments. Our small class size allows for personalized instruction for all students. We encourage teamwork and cooperation. In our group dance classes our goal is to teach a love of the art of dance with an understanding of the theory and history behind it. We prepare students to explore their creativity and to perform with confidence.

Now, Arts in Motion is extending this philosophy to the corporate environment with a team bonding workshop called, Move Through It! If you are looking for an activity to inspire your team to reach its fullest potential, Move Through It! is the workshop you’ve been waiting for.

Excerpt from a letter from the Dean of the University of Michigan School of Music Theatre and Dance (my alma mater) in response to the proposed elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH): "In a country and time that is fractured by partisan dissent, the arts unite audiences in shared experiences, encourage civil discourse and engagement, thrive on collaboration, and celebrate diverse perspectives. And the humanities, in exploring the wide range of human culture, connect us to our past, help us understand our present, and inform us in planning for our future." ... See MoreSee Less
