DANCE and ART in ME

For Preschoolers and Kindergartners (4-6 yrs.) Children will begin each day with a Creative Movement class with Amanda Stanger-Read and then move on to an Art class with Lesley Criscenti. Both classes will focus on concepts common to both dance and visual art such as line, shape, form, path, volume, emotion, depth, and pattern. After a short snack break the children will work with Amanda to create a performance piece to present on the final day of camp. Children will have input into all aspects of the performance: choreography, music and costumes. Campers should come in comfortable dance clothes that they can move in (no jeans) and bring a snack and a smock.

Modern/Jazz/Hip Hop Mini Course (7-12yrs.)

For 7-12 year olds. Dancers will take three technique classes in Modern, Jazz and Hip Hop each day, and will each choreograph their own dance to perform for family and friends on the last day of camp. Bare feet or jazz shoes. Bring a snack and a water bottle.

SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE

Dancers will take Ballet technique, Pointe, Character with Slavka Jelinkova and Modern, Improvisation, Composition with Amanda Stanger-Read. The camp is for dancers who are ready to study Ballet and Modern Dance intensively: Dancers will take five classes a day in Ballet technique (including Pointe for those students ready for pointe work), Repertory, Character Dance, Modern Dance and Improvisation. On the last day the students will showcase their work for their parents. Girls should come with pink convertable tights, leotard, pink ballet shoes, and hair should be neatly pulled back away from the face and neck. Boys should wear black convertable tights or leggings, tank top or T-shirt and black or white ballet shoes. Dancers need to bring Pointe shoes if they are ready for pointe work, a knee length colorful skirt and shoes with 1" heel (please no black rubber soles). All dancers need to bring a water bottle and a bag lunch in a container with a cold pack.

STUDENT DANCE COMPANY (SDC):


Fall and Winter only

Registered students who have been dancing at Arts in Motion for one year and are 6 yrs. of age are eligible to participate in the Student Dance Company and attend free weekly repertory classes (Sundays 2pm-4pm) with faculty and other local choreographers to create dance pieces to be presented in cummunity performances.
In 2005 we performed for the Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth and in 2006 we performed at Logan Elementary School, at the Chelsea Retirement Community Center, and with local modern dance company People Dancing in their annual Dynamic Dancing concert at the Riverside Arts Center. In 2007 we performed as part of the Gift of Arts program at the UM Hospital. For more information call Amanda at 222-6246
